A long, faceted plate in sandy clay, made for Salon, the restaurant at AYA Estate, for the dinner with Amor y Sal that we prepared as part of Materia Mensa.

The centre is calm and warm, the colour of sand, with fine dark specks from the clay itself, so the food stays in focus. The rim is where the forest comes in: a thick glaze breaks into cream, amber and brown, with dark spots and pale rings that look like lichen on bark or light on a forest floor. Every rim fires differently, so each plate in a set is its own.

The shape is asymmetric and slightly raised at the edges, which holds sauces and gives the chef a long surface for a composed plate, a tasting course or a shared starter.

Made for service: dishwasher safe and fired to be strong and hard-wearing, for daily use across a whole dining room.

We don’t use pottery wheels; our techniques are slow, manual, and focused on form and detail. Slight variations in shape, size, or glaze tone are part of the process — and proof of its authenticity.
