A deep ceramic plate, 28 cm across, made for chef Joanna Brayanova and her dish in episode 4 of Materia Mensa, our film series about clay and cooking.
The wide rim is textured by hand while the clay is still soft, in dense, uneven lines that recall moss, bark or the underside of a leaf. The green glaze is brushed on by hand and pools darker in the grooves, so the rim has depth and changes with the light. No two rims are the same.
Inside, the well is smooth, white and deep. It holds broths, sauces and pasta and keeps the food framed in the centre. In the episode it carried tortellini in a light broth with pickled onion and fresh leaves.
Each plate is made by hand in our studio in Sofia and stamped underneath.
Size: Ø 28 cm. Other sizes and glaze colours on request.
We make this piece in larger quantities for restaurants, hotels, shops and companies, in the glaze and size you need. Tell us what you are looking for and we will reply with the timing and a price.
Every piece is handmade in Sofia, Bulgaria, only after your order is placed — reducing waste and allowing us to tailor each item with care. We don’t use pottery wheels; our techniques are slow, manual, and focused on form and detail. Slight variations in shape, size, or glaze tone are part of the process — and proof of its authenticity.
