Made from black clay. The exterior is carved by hand — a rhythm of vertical grooves that run around the full circumference. Unglazed, raw, with the texture of the tool and the material left exactly as they met.

The interior surface is built in layers. White porcelain slip is applied as an underglaze texture before firing – it creates the effects you see in the glaze, the way light catches differently across the surface. The glaze moves over this texture, pooling in some places, pulling back in others. It is not a simple glaze on a smooth surface. It takes considerably more time and skill to produce, and it shows.

The colours shift from deep navy to cyan to near-white with dark pools and bright bursts that land differently each time. No two plates have the same interior. We apply the same glaze – the kiln decides what happens next.

The shape is wide and low with a thick, solid edge. More grounded than the Legged Plate – this one sits firmly on the table. The dark exterior makes every colour of food read clearly.

Each piece is handmade in our Sofia studio from black clay. The carved texture and interior glaze pattern vary naturally – this is the nature of the work.
